Sailing Vessel Grasshopper Home

Grasshopper is a Core Sound 17 designed by Graham Byrnes of B&B Yacht Designs and built by Ray Frechette of Great Falls Boat Works. The Core Sound 17 was designed for inland and coastal camp cruising. The CS 17 has a surprising turn of speed given its small size. As a result it makes a great race boat for RAID style races such as the WaterTribe Everglades Challenge and the Shipyard School RAID. In 2006 Graham won the Everglades Challenge in a CS 17 setting a new course record by approximately 24 hours.

Grasshopper was named in honor of Captain Bracegirdle's ship (Horatio Hornblower lore) which was run aground on the coast of France. Unlike the fictional Grasshopper, this one is designed and built with beaching in mind making it a great coastal and lake exploration boat.
