In June of 2007 shortly after taking possession of Grasshopper
my wife, Monique Cole and I set sail in Merchant's Row. This archipelago
of approximately 40 small islands lies between Deer Isle and Isle
au Haut in Penobscot Bay. Many of the islands are private, but several
are open to the public. Some which have been set aside and are maintained
by the Main Island Trail Association
are open to low impact camping for MITA members. We camped two nights
on Russ Island and spent three days exploring the islands under sail
and oar. Merchant's Row is a magical group of islands. Unfortunately
we only had three days left before we had to head back to Colorado.
I could spend years wandering the islands in a small boat with camera
in hand. |
